The Tamer fights alongside a bonded beast, and that makes it play unlike any other class: most of a Tamer's damage comes from the pet, not the Tamer. Every combat round your pet attacks on its own, right after you act. Your job is to keep it hitting and to stay alive — so a Tamer is built very differently from a normal damage-dealer. View your pet any time under Combat → Pet.

Your companion

  • Every Tamer has one pet from the start — a Level 0 Hatchling with no stats. You shape it entirely through feeding (below).
  • The bond is permanent. You can rename it and completely re-build it (see the Elixir of Rebirth), but you cannot own a second pet or swap it out.

How the pet fights

  • Each round, after your action, the pet automatically strikes the enemy.
  • It fights with its own four stats plus two of your stats (see scaling). It does not use your weapon, spells, weapon artes, abilities, or essences.
  • Pet damage is mitigated by the enemy's Defence (like a physical hit, softened by the pet's Fortitude piercing), and the pet can land critical hits (×2 damage).
  • Pet hits never trigger Vampiric (lifesteal) or Mana Steal. Those essences work only on your own attacks — it is not a physical-vs-magical thing, the pet simply doesn't lifesteal.

The four pet stats

Feeding raises four stats. Each does something different in combat:

StatWhat it does
MightRaw pet damage — up to +25% at 500 Might.
SpeedPet hit chance (up to +20%) and crit chance (up to +12%).
FortitudeArmour piercing — 40% of the enemy's Defence is ignored at base, rising to 90% at 500 Fortitude.
ArcanaWhen Arcana is more than 35% of the pet's total stats, the pet's damage scales off your Intelligence instead of your Spirit.

What pet damage scales off (the big question)

Pet damage uses exactly one of your stats — never both:

  • By default it scales off your Spirit (SPI).
  • If the pet is Arcana-dominant — Arcana is more than 35% of its total (Might + Speed + Fortitude + Arcana) — it scales off your Intelligence (INT) instead.

It flips fully at the 35% line: once Arcana crosses it, the pet is a pure INT beast and Spirit no longer does anything for it. Below the line it's a pure SPI beast. The Pet screen always shows which, as "(scales INT)" or "(scales SPI)". The damage on a landed hit works out to roughly:

pet damage ≈ (your INT or SPI) × (level bonus + Might bonus) × (1 + Tamer pet-damage traits)

…where the level bonus rises from 0.20 at Level 0 to 0.65 at Level 100, the Might bonus adds up to ~+0.25, then a ±10% roll is applied, the damage is divided by the enemy's (pierced) Defence — 1 + Def÷100 — and a crit doubles it.

Feeding & growing your pet

  • You grow a pet by feeding it pet food, which is cooked by the Culinarian profession (see the Culinarian page). Each food adds points to specific stats.
  • Pet Level = total stat points ÷ 5, capped at 100 — so a maxed pet has spent 500 points. You decide its build by which foods you choose.
  • Feeding is limited to 5 feeds per 10 minutes.
  • The Tamer trait Eternal Companion adds +20% to the points every food gives.

Going arcane: to push a pet over the 35% Arcana line, lean on the Arcana foods — Crystal Infused Broth, Jewelled Delicacy, Mystical Feast, Primordial Nectar (and Forest Berry Blend early on).

Evolution forms

At Levels 10, 30, 60 and 100 your pet evolves into a new form named for its dominant stat (its highest stat, as long as that stat is at least 35% of the total — otherwise it's Balanced). The form is mostly flavour, but it tells you at a glance how the pet is built.

The Elixir of Rebirth (re-spec)

The top Culinarian recipe, the Elixir of Rebirth, wipes your pet's stats and level back to 0 (keeping its name). Use it to re-build a pet from scratch — for example to convert a Spirit (physical) beast into an Arcana/INT caster-beast, or to fix a messy stat spread. The bond is never lost.

Building a Tamer

Because the pet carries your damage, the Tamer is built around accuracy and survival:

  • Whips are the Tamer's weapon, and they're DEX-focused. Your DEX drives the pet's hit chance ( 200 × DEX ÷ (DEX + enemy DEX), clamped between 50% and 95%, plus the pet's Speed bonus — overall cap 95% ) and your own evasion and initiative. DEX does not add to pet damage — it makes the pet land its hits and keeps you alive.
  • Pick your damage stat to match your pet: stack Spirit for a Might/Speed/Fortitude (physical) beast, or Intelligence for an Arcana-dominant one. Boost it through gear, essences, Crystal Gates, mastery — everything that raises that stat raises your pet's damage.
  • Then grow the pet (feeding) and unlock the Tamer pet traits as you level.

Tamer class traits

As your Tamer levels, the class trait tree boosts the pet directly (these are on top of the standard traits every class gets — see Classes & Traits):

Char LevelTraitEffect
30Beast Empathy+5% pet damage
50Feral Synergy+5% pet crit
80Primal Bond+8% pet damage
100Pack Leader+8% pet crit
120Master Tamer+10% pet damage
140Eternal Companion+20% food power (per feed)
160Alpha Predator+12% pet damage
190Boundless Bond+10% pet crit
200Apex Tamer+15% pet damage

By Level 200 that's +50% pet damage and +23% pet crit from traits alone.

Quick FAQ

  • Does Vampiric / lifesteal work from my pet? No — pet hits never proc Vampiric or Mana Steal. Those only work on your own attacks.
  • If my pet is Arcane, does it use INT and SPI? No — INT only. Arcana at 35%+ of the total flips scaling fully from SPI to INT.
  • Does DEX increase pet damage? No — DEX is the pet's accuracy and your evasion. Damage comes from INT or SPI.
  • Can I have more than one pet? No — one bonded pet per Tamer. Use the Elixir of Rebirth to re-build it.
  • What's the max pet level? 100, which is 500 total stat points.
