Getting Started
Welcome ashore, adventurer. Crystaria Online is a living realm that runs entirely in your browser — and on Steam, and on your phone — no downloads, no launchers, just a world already in motion and everyone else in it too. This page gets you from the shore to your first level-up without a single wrong turn.
You begin on Tutorial Island
Every new adventurer — registered, guest or Steam — wakes on Castaway Shore with a walking stick and no class at all. The island is a short guided run of 8 steps, and the Next Step rail in your side panel names each one, counts your progress (3 of 8) and marks the tile on your map. It reads what you have actually done rather than following a script, so it stays right if you wander off or come back tomorrow.
- Equip the Walking Stick. It does nothing sitting in your bag — open your Bag and press Equip.
- Win one fight. Step onto any tile with a creature on it and press Engage; one win takes you to Level 2.
- Meet the stranger at The Cairn. He asks what you mean to become — this is where you pick your first class — and gives you an Essence to go with it.
- Mine The Copper Seam. Gathering nodes give the raw material that crafting turns into gear.
- Take it to The Old Forge. The smith turns your stick and your copper into a real weapon for your class.
- Seat your Essence at The Crystagyn to make a piece of gear stronger. Your first meld on the island is free.
- Clear The Adventurer’s Pathway. Warden Isolde wants a Level 5 adventurer before she opens it; put down the Drowned Warden at the end of it.
- Step through The Gate and the realm is yours.
Nothing is lost on the way out. Every level, item and coin you earned comes with you, and clearing the island unlocks the two classes you did not pick.
Tidewatch, the island town, has a market, a notice board and three quests — two from Quartermaster Nel on the dock, one from Warden Isolde above the cliff path. All of it is optional; none of it blocks the Gate. (The seam here yields only Copper Ore — the mainland is a great deal richer.)
Ashore on the mainland
- Talk to Dockmaster Bren. He is standing right where you land, and he has work for you. The Next Step rail in your side panel always names the next thing worth doing — press Show me and it literally draws a golden ring around the button you need.
- Step east and fight your first Rat. It is a fair fight, we promise — press F to attack, or click ⚔ Engage on its card.
- Report back for your reward — the Dockside Band, a ring you will still be wearing at level 10,000, plus gold and a healthy shove up the early levels.
- Keep following the rail. It retires itself at level 6, by which point you will have stopped needing it.
- Come back tomorrow. From level 5 your character keeps the Long Watch while you are away — up to 12 hours of banked EXP waiting whenever you return.
New here? Play free, no strings
The ⚡ Play Free tab on the main page forges an instant guest adventurer — no email, no password, no forms. You get 7 days of full play, and if the realm gets its hooks into you (it will), one click on the gold Claim banner in your stat panel makes the account permanent with everything you earned intact. Return on the same device and your adventure simply resumes.
Making it official
Registering takes about a minute: a name (up to 20 characters — make it a good one, the realm will be saying it for years), a password, your Race and gender. Choose the race with a little care: the Altar of Rebirth can change it later, but it charges like a dragon guarding its hoard. Playing through Steam? One press signs you in — you pick your name, race and gender and never touch a password at all.
Choosing your class
You do not begin with a class at all. A brand-new character is a New Adventurer carrying a walking stick, and the stranger at The Cairn on Tutorial Island gives you your first: Fighter, Rogue or Magician. Clearing the island unlocks the other two, and fifteen more classes unlock as you go. Here is the best part: you cannot choose wrong. Every class levels separately, switching is free from the class list, and thanks to Class Mastery your alts quietly make every other character stronger. Try everything; the realm rewards the curious.
