Every enemy in the realm now owns a named signature skill that fits what it is — a Rat's Festering Bite, a Harpy's Shrieking Gale, an Iron Golem's Seismic Slam, a Wraith's Soulfrost Grasp. Skills come in three families:
Enemies decide when to unleash their skill — and a wounded monster grows bolder. The chance starts modest and climbs sharply below half health, then again below a quarter. A creature at death's door is the most dangerous version of itself. Finish fights decisively, or learn what its name means.
26 hand-forged boss skills, used far more readily than common creatures dare. The raid lords, the Underworld's story bosses, and every dungeon Ultimate Sovereign now fight with named intent:
Every Bestiary entry now lists the creature's signature skill — shown as ??? until you have personally survived it. Witnessed skills are recorded with their name, family and element, and a new Skills Witnessed counter tracks your collection. Scholars whisper that this knowledge will matter a great deal, one day.
When an enemy's Elemental Technique lands, it leaves its element's mark on you:
| Affliction | Source | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 🔥 Burning | Fire | Lose HP each enemy round |
| 💧 Bleeding | Unaligned | Lose HP each enemy round |
| ❄ Chilled | Water / Ice | −15% Dexterity |
| 🔨 Sundered | Earth | −15% Defence |
| 💫 Dazed | Wind | −15% Accuracy |
| 👿 Cursed | Dark | −15% Intelligence |
| ⛔ Humbled | Light | −15% Strength |
Afflictions last 45 seconds (re-procs refresh, never stack) and show as a red chip on your stat panel. The damage-over-time afflictions can never kill you — they stop at 1 HP. The killing blow must be earned.
The blade cuts both ways: an elemental weapon now has a chance on every landed hit to inflict the matching Affliction on your enemy. Daze them so they miss. Humble them so they hit soft. Set them Burning — and unlike yours, your Burn is allowed to finish the job. Your weapon's element is now a tactical decision, not just resonance damage.
A new Alchemy recipe (skill 25 — River Pearl ×3, Forest Wood ×3, Soil ×2) that instantly purges every Affliction. Resting at an Inn still cleanses too — but the Tonic works mid-adventure, three tiles deep in a dungeon, where it counts.
Sharp-eyed community testing caught the old per-kill EXP cap silently flattening every bonus on capped kills — Momentum, the Echo, the Realm Offering, even the Ancient dungeon modifier vanished into the ceiling. The cap has been rebuilt as a clean, final rule:
Below the ceiling — which is the overwhelming majority of kills — every bonus is fully visible. At the ceiling, you're levelling as fast as the realm allows. (The brief window where the ceiling itself scaled with the multipliers produced one adventurer's legendary 700-level day. We salute them. The window is closed.)
The Trailblazer's Echo now benchmarks against the realm's strongest other adventurer. The leader lights the road for everyone behind them — they were never meant to be pulled along by their own light. For everyone except the #1 player, nothing changes.
With thanks to the anonymous adventurer whose meticulous bug reports drove every fix in this section. The realm owes you a drink.
