The Underworld is a full 100×100 map running parallel to the overworld — equal in size, completely distinct in character. Where the surface world has forests, plains, and seas, the Underworld has ash fields, lava flows, crystal caverns, blighted groves, and void deserts. It is not a dungeon. It is a world.
Six Rift Portals have torn open across the overworld map. Walk to one and descend. The portal takes you to your corresponding entry point in the Underworld. Walk back to any portal in the Underworld to ascend.
The Underworld is accessible to characters who have reached Level 1,000.
Six portals now appear on the overworld map as ◇ violet rifts. Walk onto one to see the descend panel — the portal’s name, a description, and the Descend button. Returning from the Underworld works identically: walk onto the portal tile in the Underworld to see the Ascend option. Portal names:
Two Infernal Town clusters exist in the Underworld, each offering two services:
Every step taken in the Underworld deepens the Corruption within you. It is tracked as a value from 0 to 100 and appears as a bar on your stat panel whenever you are below ground. Corruption builds gradually — each movement tick increments it by a fixed amount — and decays slowly when you return to the overworld.
Its effects compound as it grows:
Visit Sister Embrael in Infernal Town to purify 25 Corruption for 15,000 gold, or simply return to the surface and wait.
Lava Field tiles deal damage on every step. The base damage is 5% of your maximum HP — punishing without mitigation. Heat Resistance reduces this damage percentage proportionally: at 50 Heat Resistance, lava damage is halved; at 99, it is nearly eliminated.
Heat Resistance is gained primarily through Dark Crystal gear, specifically the Thermal Mantle, and through certain Underworld drops. It is displayed on your stat panel in the Underworld alongside your Corruption bar.
Dark Crystal Shards are a new currency dropped by Underworld enemies. They have an 8% base drop chance at Level 1,000, increasing by up to 32% based on the enemy’s level, capping at 40% at enemy Level 2,000. A single kill awards 1–3 shards depending on the enemy. Your current shard total is displayed on the stat panel while in the Underworld.
Shards are spent at Artificer Veldris in Infernal Town to craft Dark Crystal gear. They cannot be sold or traded — they are bound to the character who earned them.
A performer who turns music into power. The Minstrel wields the Harp and channels their art into Buff Songs — sustained Class Abilities that grant party-wide stat enhancements and elemental protections for as long as the song is maintained. A skilled Minstrel can hold three songs active simultaneously, layering auras to support every type of content.
A warrior who has bonded a Crystal Blade to their will. Every landed attack builds a Hex Stack — up to five stacks accumulate, each one coiling additional dark energy into the weapon. When the Hexblade releases Hex Surge, all stacks detonate as a burst of void damage scaled to their Intelligence and the number of stacks held.
Dark Crystal is the new highest gear rarity in Crystaria, sitting above all existing tiers. Dark Crystal gear is item level 80–100 and provides stats appropriate for level 1,000+ adventurers.
It cannot be purchased. Every piece is obtained through one of two methods:

Five Dark Crystal tiles mark the anchor points of the story and the deepest content in the Underworld. They glow violet on the map and display a ✦ map badge:
